The City of Baltimore and Jeff Jerome, curator of the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum would like to thank the over 1,200 people who attended the various Poe Funeral week events. It was a difficult time to arrange for the late Mr. Poe's viewing and funeral service but it was outstanding and it became more of a celebration of Mr. Poe's life rather than an observance of his death. On October 7, 1849 only 7 mourners followed his corpse to the family plot but on October 11, 2009 over 200 people followed his hearse to the Westminster Hall! At the two services 700 people listened to speaker after speaker eulogize Mr. Poe. Mr. Poe now belongs to the ages and we look forward to another 200 years of celebrating his life and works. Be proud that you were part of Poe History. Peace to his manes.
